Up coming projects in Chicago
In the center of the Columbia’s south loop campus lies the building of the Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies. The property present at 618 S. Michigan Avenue was purchased by the Columbia College for $8 million. The growth in the area has increased the number of enrollment in the college and the acquired building will be utilized for the classroom, lab and office purpose. Some part of the building will also be used as student center till a permanent one is built. North of the Michigan Avenue will be the new building of the Spertus institute of Jewish Studies. The $55 million project will be the largest Jewish cultural center in the Midwest. It will have library, museum and a 400-seat lecture hall and performance space.
Another project coming up is the Asia Pacific hotel group Shangri-La hotels will develop its first U.S hotel in Chicago. The luxury hotel is expected to open in early 2009. The hotel will be situated at he corner of West Wacker Drive and Clarke Street along the Chicago River. The 12th to 27th floor of the mixed-use 90-story Waterview tower will accommodate this 200-room hotel.
