South Water Street Market Transformed
In 1925 “The South Water Street Market” was built and the cost of the land and the building was 17million dollars. In 2003 the same land was for sale at approximately 36 million dollars. The old building gave way, and the developers The Enterprise Companies of Chicago planned to construct 824 one, two, three-bedroom loft apartments. This new development was called the University Of Commons. The enterprise company was given the deal because it did not want to demolish whole of the old building but wanted to restore the old terracotta facades.
The cost of these units will range from $ 175,000 to $ 400,000. The university of commons and university of Illinois have increased the prices of the communities in old Maxell Street Market place. The construction of the lofts will take place in three building on the east of Aberdeen Street while the other three building on the west of Aberdeen Street will be rented out to merchants.
