Most of the mansions, in the Prairie Avenue were converted into factories and the factories late gave way to the development of loft condominiums. Some of these mansions that are still present in the Prairie Avenue were being renovated into commercial, cultural and living places.

The famous architect Henry Hobson Richardson designed the mansion of John.J Glessner the founder of the international harvester company. This mansion has been converted into museum. The areas history is continuing to attract residents, architects and builders due to which this area has seen increase in land value for the first time.

Two projects coming up south of 18th street shows signs of history and architectural beauty. The first project is the renovation of the mansion that belongs to the Marshall Field Jr. In 1880’s this Romanesque mansion covered an area of 24,000 square foot and a 6,000 square foot coach house. The other project is the Commonwealth, a new condominium project.
