Real Estate Transaction Fee to Help Low-Income Illinois Residents

Real estate transactions in the state of Illinois, including Chicago,
could be assessed a new $10 fee for a new low-income housing subsidy. $9
of the fee would be paid directly to landlords as low-income rental
subsidies. The other $1 would go to administrative overhead, compensating
the counties and their recorders of deeds. The bill has passed both houses
of the Illinois legislature. It is not yet known whether or not Gov.
Blagojevich will approve the measure.
